[edit]AAMoF the usage of telephone for torturing people is as old as the telephone itself. It was used by the tsarist Okhrana before WWI, by the Bolsheviks during the Polish-Bolshevik War and afterwards, by the Gestapo at least since the thirties... and so on. Halibutt 12:07, May 23, 2005 (UTC)
A Parity Issue
[edit]“There are scattered reports from American Vietnam war veterans that field phones were occasionally converted into Tucker telephones which were used by platoon commanders to torture Viet Cong prisoners.”
Allegations like this ignore that these same tactics were used by the VC against captured Americans, South Viet Names that refused to collaborate, the North Viet Namese against America POW’s up north, and other groups. The line is purified political propaganda, nothing more. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 65.102.43.164 (talk) 19:32, 5 September 2009 (UTC)
- It's a matter of finding the proper sources. 65.102, if a source says one side did it, say that. If sources say both did it, say that. WhisperToMe (talk) 16:26, 18 August 2010 (UTC)
Disturbing
[edit]This is not a suggestion for editing this article, I just want to say how appalling and disturbing that this torture device was a) invented by a doctor and b) in use for so long. It's just horrifying to read. Newjerseyliz (talk) 22:24, 2 August 2013 (UTC)
Why was it used?
[edit]Were they trying to make the person do or say something? What was it for? Equinox ◑ 07:39, 23 January 2017 (UTC)
Related to John Burge Case?
[edit]is this the same device as the one referenced in this article? It was used on Black suspects by the Chicago PD from 1972 to 1991 https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/morning-mix/wp/2015/04/15/closing-the-book-on-jon-burge-chicago-cop-accused-of-brutally-torturing-african-american-suspects/ 49.176.147.31 (talk) 05:13, 6 September 2022 (UTC)
Garbage article
[edit]This article is rubbish. The quality is about as bad as it gets. Besides being a mashup of unsupported "facts", there is a practical issue regarding the supposed device: Many people are psychologically predisposed to believe that any perceptible electric shock is painful, but the shocks received from the device described would be little more than mildly irritating, and would soon become ineffective as "torture". 2600:1700:6AE5:2510:0:0:0:46 (talk) 06:42, 20 September 2022 (UTC)
