Hello Tran Van Ba and welcome to Wikipedia! Hope you like it here, and stick around.

Here are some tips to help you get started:

Good luck!

please stop making POV edits with blank summaries; please read Talk pages.

Hello. I'm the person who reverted some of your edits to Vietnamese Constitutional Monarchist League and left you a message on that article's Talk page. It is extremely bad form to make drastic changes to articles for purposes of adding a political point of view, and especially bad if you do not even use the edit summary feature to explain what you're doing. If you have factual or point-of-view disputes on an article, you are supposed to discuss them on the Talk pages - not just go in and change everything to your liking. I'm sure you have a lot to contribute, but please read the Wikipedia style manual and editing guidelines carefully before proceeding. Hob 03:38, 2004 Sep 9 (UTC)

Copyrights

[edit]

Please stop copying material from other web sites into Wikipedia. It is a violation of their copyrights and places Wikipedia at risk of legal action. -- Cyrius| 21:38, 10 Sep 2004 (UTC)

    • Also do not delete copyright violation messages. It is explicitly forbidden by Wikipedia rules. Livajo 23:31, 10 Sep 2004 (UTC)

All I see in the discussion is an assertation by you that you have authority to use it. The site makes no mention of you that I can find (it's horribly broken and hard to navigate). As to the other sites, I will be sending an email to the provided email address later in the day, but only because it also appears on the site (http://user.panola.com/vietnam) as the contact information.

Please realize that Wikipedia does not know who you are, so as far as I can tell, you could be anyone. -- Cyrius| 22:31, 10 Sep 2004 (UTC)

Also: if you are the operator of that website and have rights to that text, then it should be easy for you to change the website to include a public statement that the text is public domain. That is really the only way to make the situation clear; a private E-mail exchange with Cyrius or anyone else isn't very useful, since other Wikipedia users would have no way to know for sure who said what. Sorry

[edit]

Re: Jerry Remigius Kanagarajah

Sorry about the revert, but I do not know what discussion you are referring to where you were given permission to use that material. It is generally a good idea to explicitly mention that copyrighted material is permitted for our use on the article's discussion page so such confusion does not happen. inappropriate promotional text, again

[edit]

There are two problems with the large amount of text you added to Vietnamese Constitutional Monarchist League. First, once again, you can't just copy text from other websites and paste it into Wikipedia without any explanation. (Yes, I know you say you are the operator of that website, but there is no way for us to verify that, and there is no message on the website that says the text is public domain.) Second, more importantly, it is a blatant violation of Wikipedia's neutral point of view guidelines. It is fine for the VCML to express opinions about what they think should happen in Vietnam; it is totally inappropriate for a Wikipedia article to do so. The statements also make no sense in this context, since they use words like "we" and "our" which really refer to the VCML. Quoting a part of the text (a SMALL part) might be OK, if you explain that this is the VCML's statement. But please do not try to use this encyclopedia as a platform for your political agenda. You already have a website for that - and the article already has a link to that site! Hob 00:39, 2004 Sep 12 (UTC)

And we'll try to sort these misunderstandings out. Dunc_Harris| 11:04, 12 Sep 2004 (UTC)

Vietnamese Constitutional Monarchist League

[edit]

I'm sorry but I have no idea what you are talking about. I have never edited Vietnamese Constitutional Monarchist League or any of the other articles you mentioned on my talk page. What makes you think I have removed your contributions from there? Angela. 17:04, Sep 12, 2004 (UTC)

Wikipedia's NPOV policy

[edit]

Based on your edits, I suspect that you might perhaps have misunderstood Wikipedia's Neutral Point of View policy. When defending your edits, you have frequently stated that your information is correct, and that it should therefore be allowed to remain. Unfortunately, it isn't as simple as that. People often disagree about what is "true", and so Wikipedia can never present one person's view and call it "true". Instead, we have to present all views, and not make claims about which one is correct. The claims made by you and the Vietnamese Constitutional Monarchist League should certainly be mentioned in Wikipedia - that isn't the problem. Rather, it's the way in which they are presented. They must be presented as an opinion, not as "the truth", because even if they are the truth, not everyone will accept that. I hope that you will understand this policy, and try to apply it to all your edits. Thanks. -- Vardion 10:48, 13 Sep 2004 (UTC)

Requests for Comment updated

[edit]

More evidence has been added to the page Wikipedia:Requests for comment/Tran Van Ba since Duncharris created it; the original complaint, about starting too many articles on Asian royal families, has been removed. But there are still some other serious issues described on that page which you have not responded to. In case you haven't seen the new version of the page, please make sure you read it now. There have also been questions raised about the possible use of false identities, at Wikipedia talk:Requests for comment/Tran Van Ba; your input would be appreciated, if you are not the same person as "Jimmy Van Thach". Photos need also your direct confirmation

[edit]

Tran Van Ba I have added on the discussion of each picture that it is fair use as you requested and can be confirmed by webmaster and chancellor, but you also make comments on the pictures to clarify for Fair use also to make this clear too. Jimmyvanthach 11:11, 14 Sep 2004 (UTC)

Do not remove copyright violation notices from articles! If you are so challenged, please explain. Removing and ignoring such notices can result in your being banned from editing here. Original contributions by you are welcome; please understand the importance of not violating copyrights, which could endanger the existance of Wikipedia! -- Infrogmation 04:00, 26 Sep 2004 (UTC)
