- 1870 – Delaware and Hudson Canal Company (1886 map pictured) leases the Albany and Susquehanna Railroad, which extended from Albany to Binghamton, New York.
- 1888 – Grand Trunk Railway acquires the Northern and Northwestern Railway.[1]
- 1896 – Erie Railroad purchases the New York, Pennsylvania and Ohio Railroad.[2]
- 1910 – The Cleveland Short Line Railway, a subsidiary of the Lake Shore and Michigan Southern Railway, opens its first 9.73-mile (15.66 km) section of track from Rockport to Marcy, Ohio, and a junction with the Lake Erie and Pittsburg Railway.[3]
