Hey Topbanana,

I thought disambiguation pages were expected not to be linked from anywhere except from Links to disambiguating pages, which exists precisely to de-orphan them. Other than that, a disambig page should be an orphan: all links should go to the appropriate disambiguated pages instead. Please remove this list, or replace it with a far more useful list of disambiguation pages that are linked from somewhere!

Yup, you're quite right - for the majority of disambig pages, nothing should link to them. The list primarily exists partly for completeness (after all, I list articles, stubs and redirects that nothing links to). I'll be migrating the most useful subset of my reports to the Wikipedia namespace along with scripts to generate them, this one might get left behind. However, the report does highlight those few unlinked disambig pages that people won't stumble across by chance, for example DivX (disambiguation). If a concensus can be reached on handling "names for which there's one overwhelmingly major meaning and at least one other minor one" it may become useful; for example recommending that a paragraph be added to the top of DivX reading For other meanings of DivX see DivX (disambiguation). - TB 08:12, Jun 16, 2004 (UTC)

I've been using this page to find those disambig pages that are not linked from one of the following disambig listing pages:
Wikipedia:Links to disambiguating pages
Wikipedia:Links to (disambiguation) pages
Wikipedia:Multiple-place names (Including all sub-pages)
Wikipedia:Non-unique_personal_name

If a listing appears in one of these, I declare it linked and manually remove it from your list. (If one belongs in more than one, as is often the case, I add it where it needs to go.)
I am finding that about 95% of the listings are now linked; it is finding that 5% that are not linked that your list is proving to be useful for.
I also look for disambig pages that are now linked to from articles (presumably linked since the script was last run); I go and clarify the links in those cases, and then remove it from your list.
The next time you run the script for this page, will you filter out the 4 linking pages/sections listed above? That would make this page most useful. Kevyn 20:54, 16 Jun 2004 (UTC)
Yup, can do - these reports are all 'under development', suggestions for improving them are very welcome indeed. - TB 08:31, Jun 17, 2004 (UTC)

BTW Italy (disambiguation) doesn't show as a being linked from Italy as the link is through {{alternateuses}} on Italy. -- User:Docu

Yup - I've yet to start in on text expansions, analysis of the plain text of the articles is yielding more than enough cruft to keep the current set of volunteers busy. I will have to work out the best of doing this some time though, you're right. - TB 08:31, Jun 17, 2004 (UTC)
