The team name (also known as nickname) are the Major League Soccer franchise of City, State. A few more sentences which describe the team's owner, what other teams he owns (probably an NFL team), and what stadium they play in.

Further paragraphs can describe a little about the team's history, particularly noteworthy people, title runs (failed or otherwise), and that sort of thing.

Honors

[edit]

Including, but not limited to, MLS Cup, MLS Supporters' Shield, US Open Cup, CONCACAF Champions Cup (try www.soccerage.com), and any other CONCACAF cups you can find. (For instance, D.C. United won the CONCACAF Interamerican Cup, but it only appears to have been contested in 1998.)

  • Cup name number of titles won (year1, year2)

for example:

International Competetion

[edit]
  • Year, Cup name
    • nth Round v. Opponent -- MLS_score:opponent_score second:leg (Team advance score:score on aggregate/score:score on penalties/on Away Goals/etc.)

for example:

  • 1999 Champions Cup
    • Quarterfinals v. Olimpia -- 1:0
    • Semifinals v. Necaxa -- 1:3
    • 3rd place v. Chicago Fire -- 2:2
  • 2002 Champions Cup
    • First round v. Comunicaciones -- 0:4, 2:1 (Comunicaciones advance 5:2 on aggregate)

Players of Note

[edit]

You can find a list of every player in MLS and what team they played for, up to 2003, at mlsnet.com. As a rule of thumb, I include players that fall into any of these categories:

  • star or "marquee" players
  • up-and-coming players (Freddy Adu, Kyle Martino)
  • players famous outside of MLS
  • players who have seen a signficant amount of time with the Nats
  • at-least-somewhat famous foreign players

The generic format:

  • Player's Name (Year joined-Year left), honors, if any

for instance:

Head Coaches

[edit]

mlsnet.com also has a list of coaches.

  • Coach's Name (Year started-Year quit/fired)

General Managers

[edit]

I'm less thrilled with this section at this point. I put it in New England Revolution because I could find the information, but I'm not looking too hard for it any more. Most team pages don't have the history of their GMs, and really, they don't wield a whole lot of power anyway.

[edit]

At the very least, should include:

  • team's home page (probably part of mlsnet.com)
  • team's official supporters club home page, if there is one
