Capital Name

[edit]

I assume Laascaanood is the same as Las Anod since this news article mentions the capital of Sool with a kind of similar name. I mentioned it in the main article and created a redirect for it.

"Las Anod is the capital of Sool, which both regions claim, along with neighbouring Sanaag."[1] The preceding unsigned comment was added by Richard Cane (talk • contribs) 18:18, 31 October 2004 (UTC)

October 2007

[edit]

Since October 15, various editors have changed the article to show Las Anod as being under the jurisdiction of Somaliland, Puntland, or Somalia. The Somaliland claim is the only one accompanied by an attribution and so I have reverted to that version of the article. If you believe this information is incorrect then please cite sources to the contrary. Thank you. -- Gyrofrog (talk) 19:11, 16 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Laasanod is currently the administrative capital of SSC khamtumo state of somalia. it has nothing to do with somaliland or puntland. please rectify and type Lasanod capital of Khatumo state 197.156.137.136 (talk) 10:08, 5 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

*Battle of Las Anod - for Somaliland's victory, see aljazeera's reference: Troops from the breakaway Somali republic of Somaliland have seized a village inside a rival region loyal to the interim Somali president, killing at least 10 people. The reference is already in the article, among others confirming that. --TheFEARgod (Ч) 22:28, 16 October 2007 (UTC)

  • Your reverts to Las Anod article seem OK, no need for the POV tag.
  • Cheers,--TheFEARgod (Ч) 22:28, 16 October 2007 (UTC)
Thank you. I guess the PoV dispute has more to do with calling it "Somaliland" at all (vs. "Somalia"). -- Gyrofrog 23:48, 16 October 2007 (UTC)

What is disputed is the notion of Somaliland, which is not a country nor it is recognized as such by any world organzations. So for anyone to call a city in Somalia, Somaliland is repugnant. It is a clan disagreement (much like the civil war) and which clan has what land. Nothing more, nothing less. It is a city in Somalia, and will stay a city in Somalia till the end of times. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 164.76.243.240 (talkcontribs) 15:27, 17 October 2007

I don't expect to resolve Somaliland's sovereignty issue on my talk page (if anywhere), but still, isn't it accurate to say that armed forces, who claim to represent a place called Somaliland, won a battle over Las Anod on Oct. 15? -- Gyrofrog 15:45, 17 October 2007 (UTC)

January 2008

[edit]

Las Anod (Laascaanood) is a capitol of Sool State of Somalia. The population of this city is between 100,000 and 150,000. is you need prove contact the UN. it's not part of Somaliland because no such entity is recognises by any world body. Aslo the people are called Dhulbahante and not AfAr as mentioned in one of the above entries. --Libaaxy (talk) 16:33, 22 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

If the UN can corroborate the population number, then feel free to provide a citation. As for the disputed status or non-status of Somaliland, please see my earlier comments under "October 2007." Thanks! -- Gyrofrog (talk) 16:38, 22 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

LAS ANOD IS A TOWN IN SOMALILAND'S REGION OF SOOL, ITS JUST BEEN LIBERATED FROM THE PUNTLAND MILITIA. OFCOURSE THERE ARE ELEMENTS WITHIN THE DHULBAHANTE CLAN WHO SIDES WITH PUNTLAND, BUT THE MAJORITY OF PEOPLE IN THE REGION FEEL THEY ARE PART OF SOMALILAND.

THE POPULATION NUMBER IS WELL EXAGIRATED, ABOUT 20 000 TO 30 000 PEOPLE LIVE IN LAS ANOD. A POPULATION OF 100 000 OR MORE CANNOT LIVE IN SUCH A SMALL TOWN WITH NO HIGH RISE BUILIDNGS. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.145.241.246 (talk) 19:44, 22 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

No the people are a part of SOMALIA and not a part of an oppressive and violent Somaliland EditorSom (talk) 23:15, 29 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

This is true. There is no WAY Las Anod has 250,000 people-- that is what the UN estimates as Bosasso's population. The entire Somali population is probably under 10m. 76.68.36.206 (talk) 04:11, 4 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Again, attribution would be useful. -- Gyrofrog (talk) 21:12, 22 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

POV tag

[edit]

This concerns POV tag cleanup. Whenever an POV tag is placed, it is necessary to also post a message in the discussion section stating clearly why it is thought the article does not comply with POV guidelines, and suggestions for how to improve it. This permits discussion and consensus among editors. This is a drive-by tag, which is discouraged in WP, and it shall be removed. Future tags should have discussion posted as to why the tag was placed, and how the topic might be improved. Better yet, edit the topic yourself with the improvements. This statement is not a judgement of content, it is only a cleanup of frivolously and/or arbitrarily placed tags. No discussion, no tag.Jjdon (talk) 23:33, 28 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ghost town

[edit]

On 13 May 2009 IP editor 65.93.166.24 added the sentence: However, since Somaliland has taken control of the city it has virtually become a ghost town since civilians got displaced during the take over. Since the inhabitants were mostly members of the Darod clan which has close ties to Puntland, it is not surprising that this might happen, but can anyone find a source? --Bejnar (talk) 21:52, 20 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Las Anod

[edit]

@:NastradamusNas, why are you vandalising the page? Las Anod is not disputed. You can look at the Sool page, In the summary it says: The city has been under full control of Somaliland for over 10 years; "In 2007, forces from Somaliland assumed control of the region". There is no other administration in Las Anod. Koodbuur (talk) 18:49, 4 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@:Koodbuur, Why are you lying about the location of this city? The Dhulbahante people of Northern Somalia will never accept the secession Somaliland. The Dhulbahante occupy Sool, Sanaag and Ayn regions of Northern Somalia, which covers half of the territory that has been dubbed as Somaliland. They are staunch supporters of a united Somalia have formed their own autonomy region called Khaatumo which has pledged allegiance to the Somali Federal Government. They have their own president called Professor A noli Khaliif Galaydh, a former prime minister of Somalia, and are based in Buhodle town , Ayn region. This is the birth place of the Dervish movement which fought for Somalia independence. Please keep your political ideology to yourself. You are not stating facts but opinions. Control of the territory is disputed between Khatumo State (SSC) and the autonomous region of Puntland and the "self declared" autonomous state of Somaliland. Please refer to the Khatumo State page. Thanks. NastradamusNas (talk) 19:51, 4 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Please back your assertions. There are no sources that indicate that Las Anod is under the control of Khatumo group. Koodbuur (talk) 21:53, 4 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Las Anod is a town in Somalia, can you please stop vandalising the article. The fact that the city is under Isaaq occupation does not make it part of the Somaliland clan enclave of Somalia. Disruptive edits.

[edit]

@ Dabaqabad once again you're resulting to disruptive editing as you have done in the Dhulbahante article. [2] [3]. The text added on this article is relevant for readers and cited from reliable sources. Please do not remove it again. Whether a stable version of this article existed or not is not for you to determine, anyone who adheres to the rules of Wikipedia can contribute to the article. If you have any other issue you can engage here on the talk page.

Moreover, you have deleted cited text again [4], I can't keep reminding you. Shirshore (talk) 18:08, 12 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Shirshore: Again, I never deleted any cited text but rather moved it to its appropriate section. Somaliland has had full control over the city since October 2007, including governance as well as services. To call the situation "contentious" is not true if that's the case. Your edits fit better in the "Territorial dispute" section that seems to be a bit short and has plenty of room for expansion. Please show me where I deleted cited content?
As for your second part about popular support; I checked both citations and none of them back up your claim, or even mention such a thing. You can only add content that is supported by reliable sources. I advise you to beware from POV editing as well, not saying that you are but still, an offense that you have been blocked for previously. Dabaqabad (talk) 18:23, 12 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Hi @ Shirshore,
I have reverted your edit in the introductory section as the content is already present within the "Territorial dispute" section on the page. There is also a link to the main article Puntland–Somaliland dispute. I can see no reason for it to be mentioned again within the introduction.
Many thanks Jacob300 (talk) 18:24, 12 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Jacob300 and Dabaqabad, I'm aware that Somaliland currently controls the city. The edit informs off the territorial dispute between Somaliland and Puntland and the popular demands amongst the local inhabitants to remain part of Somalia. As the centre of this highly contested region, it is imperative that the introduction to the article addresses the dispute and the political allegiance of the local people. This has been a defining feature of the city in recent history. A brief mention of the city's disputed locality is not sufficient for an introduction. There are abundant reliable publications that can be cited to inform readers of the issues.Shirshore (talk) 18:47, 12 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Shirshore: Arguments like popular demands are very vague and are very hard to prove, and is irrelevant to the situation on the ground since inhabitants of one area are not one monolith. For the sake of your argument, recently the Somali flag as well as a portrait of Somalia's president Farmaajo was burned in Laascaanood ([5]) while in another case the flag of Puntland was burned by protestors ([6]) while yet again countless people attended celebrations of Somaliland's independence day this year ([7]), as well as 2015 ([8]) and 2018 ([9]). Another case is the recent elections where many of Las Anod's residents voted.
The dispute obviously needs to be covered, however it already has its very own section dedicated to it, which has explained it perfectly and on which you are more than happy to improve so long as it is free of bias and is cited, and where I put the content you added even though you accused me of removing it. There's no need to keep mentioning it again and again within the introduction, which is dedicated to the town itself and would constitute WP:WEIGHT. Dabaqabad (talk) 20:39, 12 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Dabaqabad, First, I'm not here to debate or "prove" any point, original research is not allowed on Wikipedia. My intention is to cite widely available literature in academic journals, reports and reliable news sources. This is necessary to provide the reader an objective viewpoint regarding the point of contention here. I understand that YouTube videos uploaded by unverified users are not sufficient for Wikipedia. Second, as Somaliland is not the only entity that lays claim to the city it's imperative and fair that Puntland's claim is also mentioned in the introduction, to do otherwise could be misleading the reader. I agree I shouldn't be repeating this over and over again, this a was constructive edit that does not preach WP:WEIGHT nor should cause any disagreement between editors - it is neutral and fairly represents "all significant viewpoints that have been published by reliable sources". Third, I will be editing the article within Wikipedia guidelines, you are welcome to make corrections if any are preached, other than that please refrain from reverting or removing content is sourced. Thanks, Shirshore (talk) 22:15, 12 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
The dispute, including Puntland's claim is not only extensively covered in the Puntland-Somaliland dispute article but also has an ENTIRE section dedicated to it in the article where, once again, you're more than welcome to contribute to as long as it is not original research or biased. Adding it to the introduction as well is giving it undue weight per WP:WEIGHT; and is simply redundant and unnecessary. Then is the fact that Puntland has no control or influence over the town or most of the region since October 2007, when Somaliland seized control over it and has fully controlled it ever since.
Like I said previously; I have not removed any content but merely moved it to its appropriate section. Stop accusing me of something that I did not and of which you have no proof of. As an editor you are supposed to assume good faith. In the meantime, please refrain from disruptive editing as you have been blocked for it before. Thanks, Dabaqabad (talk) 00:06, 13 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

We’re going around in circles here. Like I said I will cite trusted publications in the edits. I don’t intend to cite unverified blogs or anything similar. If you don’t agree with the content of the edit (which doesn’t violate Wikipedia guidelines) you can raise a dispute. In the meantime please don’t revert my edits, thanks. Shirshore (talk) 11:15, 13 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

You're making a huge issue off a non-issue. I'm not denying that you cited trusted publications, nor have I said that you cited or intended to cite unverified blogs or anything similar. I agree with most of your content however there's a whole section dedicated to it, as well as an entire article, therefore you should be expanding that section instead. Stop putting words in my mouth. Again, you're supposed to assume good faith as an editor. Dabaqabad (talk) 12:12, 13 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Dabaqabad, I believe it is a very important issue that should be addressed in the introductory section. There is plenty of reliable publications which highlight the significance of the territorial dispute and the political aspirations of the local people which is easily accessible. I intend to expand the section regarding these issues and the whole article, but first I will work on the introduction which is also in need of expansion. I'm just reminding you, you cannot dictate the location of these edits within the article. Your duty as an editor is to ensure trusted sources are cited in edits, you cannot determine the significance and relevance of the edit for the article, this would enable subjective bias. If you're not satisfied you can raise a dispute. Moreover, the edit was made in good faith - it provides an objective and unbiased overview for readers. You're also free to contribute to the article, I just ask that you make effort to avoid Edit Warring. I hope that is clear enough. Many thanks. Shirshore (talk) 13:45, 13 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Again you're once again being uncooperative over a non-issue. Like I said before, while the dispute is important to mention, it is NOT the defining feature. Expand the section that is ENTIRELY dedicated to it please. See how articles of towns in disputed territories (see Srinagar and Gilgit for Kashmir, an area subject to a similar but much more heated land dispute between two sides) are built; brief mention of the dispute in the appropriate section with a link taking you to the main dispute article for more information.

This article is about the town of Las Anod itself, not about the Somaliland-Puntland dispute which is, once again, COVERED in the "Territorial dispute" section already, expand that section please.

To keep mentioning it would be redundant as the introduction is dedicated to general and significant facts about the town itself, not the dispute of which it might be a part of.

The burden is on you to prove that it is significant enough to be included in the introduction. Dabaqabad (talk) 15:49, 13 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Dabaqabad, I have cooperated and tried to be reasonable with you. I have refrained from any edits before consensus over the issue is reached but you remain adamant to revert any edits. You should raise a dispute! I can't see how else you could be satisfied here. The edit doesn't violate Wikipedia rules, thus there is no reason why the introduction cannot be expanded to include Puntland's claim to the city as it does with Somaliland or inform about the political contention regarding the city. I'm aware that other sections cover these issues, and I intend to expand those sections too, you don't have to repeat this. The introduction provides a general overview of the city, hence why such a defining contention must be mentioned in the introduction.
Nonetheless, if I attempt to understand your reasoning here, effective control must be the determinant factor in locating a city/town in a geographical entity? and in this case you have located Las Anod in Somaliland because the entity currently administers the city? If this is so, shouldn't articles regarding cities/towns in the disputed regions such as Buuhoodle, Badhan, Las Qoray, and Dhahar base their location within Puntland or as self-governing cities? After all, this is why you're referring to the articles concerning Srinagar and Gilgit if I understand correctly? Furthermore, how do you intend to resolve issues arising in articles that concern towns that have nominal control from both Puntland and Somaliland such as Taleh and Bo'ame? or even the articles for the Sool and Sanaag regions, as parts of both regions are controlled by either of the two entities? would it not be better if the articles mention both claims in a neutral, unbiased and uniform format? to elevate Somaliland's claim over the other is misleading and biased in my opinion Shirshore (talk) 16:55, 13 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @ Shirshore, Thank you for your message.
As explained previously, there is a dedicated section on the page explaining the territorial dispute. I see no reason for this to mentioned in the introduction of the section of article for a second time. This is in addition to the link to the main article.
Many thanks, Jacob300 (talk) 20:11, 13 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

In the introductory section is states "During the pre-independence period, Las Anod served as an early center for Mohammed Abdullah Hassan's Dervish resistance" - However, I am unable to find any reference to Las Anod on the main Dervish movement (Somali) article, only Eyl and Taleh.

Removal of content

[edit]

Hello @Heesxiisoleh:,

I removed some stuff (https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Las_Anod&diff=1058498472&oldid=1058497260) whose citations did not match up with what was actually on there (it seems that you reused the same citation). Could you please provide with reliable sources that back this up?

Also, this Diiriye Guure figure keeps popping up however you have not provided a reliable source for that. Just a friendly reminder; anything that has no reliable source backing it up is original research. I left you a message at the Somali aristocratic and court titles talk page however you did not reply.

Many thanks, Dabaqabad (talk) 22:39, 3 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Dabaqabad. "Some stuff had bad citations" doesn't really specify what needs sourcing. Please do not remove content whilst being vague about what you object to. Heesxiisolehh (talk) 00:25, 4 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I removed this part:

"According to notes by H. E Stanton, a British CHief of Staff officer, between 1903 and 1904, a precursor map of Nogal District which was undemarcated, stated that the expeditions would primarily consist of operations in the thereupon non-demarcated and inaccurately drawn Nogal District:[6]

It was obvious from the first that the main operations would be conducted in the Nogal district. This tract of country was very badly and inaccurately shown on existing maps.

Further corroborating that Darawiish territorial boundaries and Darawiish jurisdiction consisted solely of the Nogal District is that all three geographic maps envisioned, and then used for operations against Darawiish in expeditions one to five, were called "Nogal maps" by the British colonial empire, and individually Nogal no. 1 map, Nogal no. 2 map, and Nogal no. 3 map. The 1900s expedition era definition of Nogal included the Ciid region of haud as evidenced by the inclusion of the Gumburu locality:

All demands for maps were met with great promptitude, and, in the case of the three Nogal maps, which were compiled in the field and sent home for reproduction,... Nogal No. 1 was compiled in the field and sent home for rapid production ... I had Nogal No. 2 compiled from all the above sources, with the addition of Wellby's route, which had been accidentally omitted from No. 1. ... I had no hesitation in making his work the basis of the new map, Nogal No. 3, and the work previously compiled in No. 2 was fitted on to it. ... They went to Gumburu (see Nogal sketch) ..."

Due to the fact that the source that was cited for it (British war office, 1907, page 392) does not support it. Per WP:VERIFY the citation needs to directly support the part where it was cited, hence the removal.

I also modified this part:

"According to Said Samatar, British authorities initially opposed Dhulbahante appointees to government during the 1920s and early 1930s out of judiciousness, due to their background in the Darawiish sultanate of Diiriye Guure"

To reflect the actual content of the source. Said Samatar does not mention a "Darawiish sultanate", let alone Diiriye Guure. This is original research, which I suggest you desist from and learn more about on WP:OR.

I'll revert the page. You're free to add content as long as it is verifiable and reliable, and is directly supported by the citations you have cited. Dabaqabad (talk) 00:44, 4 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

It is inappropriate to label a region as part of a state that is not officially recognized as being part of Somalia. This undermines the sovereignty of Somalia. The people living in the region are in conflict with the current regime and have publicly declared their independence from it. The situation is tense, and there is a possibility of war. However, it is believed that the Somaliland administration will be defeated, and the region will eventually become part of Somalia, as has happened in the past. There’s developing story in Lasanod. On the morning of 6th February, 2023 Somalinland troops have attacked Lasanod city, local malitia from the locals have resisted the attack, resulting death of 34 people of both sides, also large number of households displaced. Therefore want to add more crucial stores to the page. [1] Dolf133 (talk) 22:21, 6 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Needed an update on this Article ' Las Anod '

[edit]

Hallow!

There are needed a few changes on this article after a declaration of independence affected to day Feb 06, 2023.

In the last few months Las Anod residents reported dozens people have been killed and injured in the violence. Somaliland which is called region in northern Somalia authorities reportedly launched the mortars that killed many innocents including children, women, men, youths, and political elders. For that reason it has become necessary to hold a self determination conference that brings together all the tradition leaders, religious scholars, intellectuals, women and youth groups and all other representatives of society groups in Las Anod on this Monday. Therefore, Following two weeks of conference meetings in Las Anod, the traditional elders and leaders from the Sool, Sanaag, and Ayn regions announced on Monday February 06 2023 that the three regions would not be part of Somaliland.

The elders said in a statement that the SSC-Khatumo territories are part of the federal republic of Somalia from now on and stand for the unity and integrity of the Somali Federal Republic and publicity declared that it was not part of Somaliland anymore. That declaration of independent letter has been sent to The President of The Federal Republic of Somalia and all other diplomatic.

With that being said, what we need to request is to makes a few changes on this article and you will leave everything else as it was before.

  1. First, you will change this first statement Las Anod (Somali: Laascaanood; Arabic: لاسعانود) is the administrative capital of the Sool region of Somaliland." to Las Anod (Somali: Laascaanood; Arabic: لاسعانود) is the administrative capital of the Sool region of Somalia."
  2. We also going to change "the flag country of Somaliland" to "the flag country of Somalia"
  3. Also " the location of Somaliland and the show map of Somaliland " underneath the map needs to be changed to " The Location of Somalia and the show map of Somalia"

Pending I don't think Wikipedia can declare the territory as Somalia yet, but it's likely to get there.
The area is clearly self-determining as Somalia atm (per 2023 Las Anod conflict). However it was assimilated by military force by Somaliland in 2018. As of today (March 18), Somaliland troops are present in the region shelling Gooja Cadde from outside the city border. There are no troops within the city border per Twitter. Twitter reports that Abdi Madoobe (president of Jubaland, defected from Al-Shabab) has entered the city and burned all Khat (a huge loss for Hargeisa).
To no longer be considered Somaliland, the Dhulbahante would need to defeat the Somaliland Army or secure their surrender. That looks somewhat likely now but hasn't happened yet.
If Puntland declared their support for the conflict or even military assistance, then it would be fair to put Somalia (disputed by Somaliland). MathAfrique (talk) 12:19, 18 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Listen, Somaliland is not a real country, it’s an secessionist state. Even if Las anod has not yet got out of that state it doesn’t negate the fact that Somaliland isn’t a internationally recognised country and Somaliland still relies on Somalia for funding today like every other national somali state. Change the location of Las Anod back to Somalia. Not one country recognises Somaliland as a country yet a Wikipedia mod does? Atp you show me a source because you’re spreading Misinformation.

The city nor Sool, Sanaag & Cayn region is not disputed by Puntland or Somaliland. In 2007 the representatives elders of the community entered into an agreement with the administration of Somaliland to be governed under. However the community have been neglected due to their tribal differences with the rest of Somaliland which led to the outbreak of protests against the Somaliland administration in December of 2022. The Somaliland military responded with a brutal force and many casualties as a result which has increased the bridge between the community and Somaliland. Since 5th of February the city of Laascanood has officially cut ties with Somaliland and instead wants to self-administrate under Khatumo State of Somalia. 85.230.76.247 (talk) 22:27, 18 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

SL influence over Las Anod has greatly dropped. There has been an ongoing war for the last month+ with SL forces and local militia wishing to leave SL. Currently, many of the visible flags of SL in the city (and surrounding towns/region) have been painted over with blue flags.

Page has misinformation, Las Anod is internationally recognised as city within Somalia and not Somaliland.

[edit]

I viewed this page and noticed that someone wrote Las Anod is in Somaliland which is completely false. It’s in Somalia and the residents there also claim that, the whole world recognises that city is located within Somalia so I don’t know how someone could even accept this edit and then protect the page on top of that. The las anod natives have just been through a war based on the fact that this secessionist state wants to force them to join but they defended themselves and claimed Somalia same way Somalia recognises them and the whole world.

Can you change the location of this city back to “Somalia”.

Somaliland is no longer in control of Laascanood as a result of the recent clashes in 2023 which resulted in the Somaliland troops being expelled from the region by the unionist (Pro-Somalia) forces.

Somaliland's direct control in Laascanood lasted 15 years from October 2007 to February 2023

I think it is fair that this change in control be reflected (or even mentioned) in the article.

Therefore I suggest changing the country section of this article from Somaliland to Somalia. 2.28.117.176 (talk) 13:03, 10 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

1. Change “Las Anod is the administrative capital of the Sool region of Somaliland” to “ Las Anod is the administrative capital of the Sool region of Somalia” 2. Change the country which Lassanod is in to Somalia

Why? This Wikipedia page states that Lasanod is in Somaliland. There are two issues with this claim: 1. There’s no recognized nation/country called Somaliland and as such, this information is completely false. 2. In 2023, the communities of Sool (including Lasanod), Sanaag, and Ayn regions (SSC-Khaatumo) in North-central Somalia separated from the secessionist movement of Somaliland. As such, the self-determination of the people of SSC-Khaatumo should be respected. This page should be updated to indicate that Lasanod is part of Somalia. Hello, I want to request a change that many people have been asking for many months. N1, Somaliland may have had control over Las Anod (2007-2023), but now they do not have control over the city, or even the whole region of Sool. N2, The government of Somalia has now recognized and have ties with the state of SSC-Khatumo. Somaliland has no effective control over Las Anod, or even the rest of Sool. This is the reality, especially after the Khatumo soldiers took over he biggest base SL has in Sool, in Goojacde. I would highly request you to change the country from Somaliland to Somalia. There is no more dispute anymore. It ended in August 25th, 2023. My other request is to update the timeline on the events happening in L.A, as it seems lackluster, and not up to date. Many developments have been happening, even the UN making claims to look into war crimes. I ask this respectfully, please change the country from somaliland to somalia. The above is the most recent edit request for the article. From what I have read, the Horn Observer and Hiiraan articles appear to support the editor's claim that Somalia now has full control over Las Anod, and as far as I can see there aren't any significant reliability or POV issues with the two sources. However, I am not familiar with Horn of Africa articles, so I would appreciate if regular contributors to the area could comment on whether this edit should be implemented. Thanks! Thank you for considering my edit, recent events suggest that Las Anod, the whole regions of Sool, Sanaag & Cayn are under The federal goverment of somalia rule. No dispute anymore from SL & PL. Thank you. The edit should be "Sool region of SSC-Khatumo."

The Horn Observer, Hiiraan Online, and Horseed Media are reliable sources of information, but they are Somalia's mass media and are not neutral when it comes to territorial issues between Somalia and Somaliland. It is preferable to use sources that are not connected to either region. Freetrashbox (talk) 12:07, 5 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The federal government of Somalia has recognized it as a FMS on Oct 19. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/F84j-zgWQAApRH9?format=jpg&name=medium <----This is their statement. This is a source that can't be ignored. Every town and village in Sool (Except Oog and Caynabo), and Cayn regions should be labeled under (Somalia & Khatumo). Thanks Khaatumo 12 (talk) 02:10, 15 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Even if the Somalia federal government recognizes SSC-Khaatumo, it is not clear which towns in Sool are SSC-Khaatumo territory. However, as for Las Anod, it is clear that SSC-Khaatumo controls it, so how about it as "Effective control by SSC-Khaatumo (in dispute with Somaliland)" in this article? Freetrashbox (talk) 12:44, 15 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I can confidently say that the only villages that are under somaliland control in Sool is Oog and Caynabo. Other then that, Khatumo has full authority. Some villages even in Sanaag are under Khatumo but i will have to do some research on what specifically are those villages. You can say it is claimed by Somaliland, but there really isn't a dispute because of the recognition. It is part of Somalia. Thanks Khaatumo 12 (talk) 00:18, 16 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
What is needed is reliable source, not "confidently." The source you indicated is that Somalia government recognized SSC-Khaatumo, but it did not indicate which town belongs to SSC-Khaatumo. I would add that the source should be indicated on a reliable website (e.g. the official Somalia government website), not on Twitter. Freetrashbox (talk) 21:53, 25 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Not done: it's not clear what changes you want to be made. Please mention the specific changes in a "change X to Y" format and provide a reliable source if appropriate. Liu1126 (talk) 00:09, 13 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The map filter contradicts this wiki. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Khatumo_State showing LA as being in Somalia.
Filter is also internally inconsistent as the wiki shows location as Somalia, not Somaliland. Makes more sense to filter first on Khaatumo State and then Somalia.
Las Anod is the capital of Khaatumo State which is a region of Somalia. It's not part of Somaliland. Note: both Somaliland and Khaatumo are regions of Somalia. That's why the filter is incorrect. Those are two separate regions within Somalia.
More background.
Khaatumo was established by the Federal government of Somalia. The Federal government responsible for Somalia which is an internationally recognized sovereign country that can create regions called federal member states. See Somali constitution for references to Federal Member States articles 48- 53.

Here are some news links about when Khaatumo was established as a region by the Federal government. The first link contains the press release from ministry of interior in Somali.

Hope that clarifies. Kindly correct the filter in the map section. Zara1066 (talk) 01:06, 10 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
