Born 1640?
[edit]According to Encyclopædia Britannica and Catholic Encyclopedia he was born in 1640 and died in 1701. See Encyclopædia Britannica and Catholic Encyclopedia on Hennepin.--Ankara (talk) 18:13, 19 May 2009 (UTC)
- Britannica says 1626 for his birth and "after 1701" for his death, which is in substantial agreement with the dates currently appearing in the article, which seem to be based on the dates in the Dictionary of Canadian Biography referenced at the bottom of our article page. The Catholic Encyclopedia basically agrees with our current death date of "circa 1705", but as you point out, claims 1640 for his birth date. As with many fringe historical figures, the dates of their births and deaths occasionally varies somewhat, reflecting uncertainty in the historical record. After reviewing a number of sources online, including transcriptions of historical plaques dedicated to him, it appears to me that the dates presented in the current version of the article have a fair amount of support, although the 1640 birth date does appear in some other sources, the majority point to a basic agreement with our present figures. cheers Deconstructhis (talk) 21:46, 19 May 2009 (UTC)
- Ok. Thanks!--Ankara (talk) 23:23, 19 May 2009 (UTC)
The article currently gives his birth year as 1626. Later, in the "Biography" section, it says: "Hennepin was 39 when he departed in 1679 with La Salle from Quebec City", which would mean he was born in 1640. This article needs to pick a date and stick with it. It matters little, in the end, if we write 1626 or 1640. The inconsistency, though, is unacceptable. 66.206.234.188 (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 23:48, 16 September 2017 (UTC)

Timing discrepancy
[edit]Wasn’t Louis XXIV only inaugurated in 1738, this well after the time when the town he was living in was captured? 2A02:A020:DA:DD9A:FDD5:3B8C:2CEA:12F6 (talk) 21:39, 16 April 2022 (UTC)
