Please excuse the bad quality of my English... I placed "Gourmet library and museum" as link because the Library contains more than 300 000 recipes en that can be interesting for saerchers, isn't it ?... I therefore place it again. If you don't agree, please, contact me. --Égoïté (talk) 14:58, 7 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Everyone, the link may be ok; check it out. I first removed it because it had been removed as spam on another article. See my talk page for his justification. Carl.bunderson (talk) 04:42, 8 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Linking to one of thousands of recipe websites from a general article like this (and Restaurant) is spamming. It's not a website about "what a recipe is", it's just another site with recipes on it. I'm staying out of this from here on in, but this is not an appropriate link. - Special-T (talk) 04:48, 8 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I saw your comment on his talk page after posting that, and you are right. I've been in the same situation before with specificity of links, and I just hadn't been thinking about this one from that standpoint. So I wouldn't say there is reason for you to stay out of it; I'll continue removing it now. Carl.bunderson (talk) 04:49, 8 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
So what's the final verdict? I guess the link I provided is too general for this topic? I just don't see how you can judge which links stay or go... —Preceding unsigned comment added by Gtg228r (talkcontribs) 05:30, 8 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Well my 2¢ is that it's not ok here, but is on something such as Vegetarian cuisine. See WP:EL for more on guidelines about what to, and not to, link. Carl.bunderson (talk) 05:40, 8 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Definitely wouldn't think it would be suited here, good idea about Vegetarian cuisine. Wexcan  Talk  05:44, 8 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, thanks for your help! appreciate it Gtg228r (talk) 05:57, 8 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'm removing nearly all of the external links, since they are merely links to websites providing lots of recipes. 1- There are (tens of?) thousands of such sites, and listing a few here in a general encyclopedia article is arbitrary; 2- A Google search for the word recipe would turn up pages of listings like this. Links here don't add to the article; 3- These are not sites with information about recipes, they're just recipes. If there's a good reason to restore any of these, go ahead, but it seems pretty clear that these are not good external links that add value to an encyclopedia article. - Special-T (talk) 17:23, 10 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I've removed the new link to a "recipie Wikia" page as I feel it's solely to promote the Wikia or, at the very least, doesn't add much to the page itself. -Corestrike (talk) 07:29, 31 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Enunciation advice

[edit]

"Ress-i-pee"? That's a bit too amateurish, why not use proper symbols? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.91.90.219 (talk) 22:55, 9 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I've removed the pronunciation. Carl.bunderson (talk) 21:37, 12 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Recipes in Ancient Egypt

[edit]

Phrase: "There are ancient Egyptians hieroglyphics depicting the preparation of food" refered to Encyclopedia of Food and Culture, vol. 1, p. 558. But at this page is no mention about this, only: "Records from China and Egypt show that fowl were domesticated and laying eggs for human consumption around 1400 B.C.E.".
